The Compassion and Wisdom of Lord Buddha
Vegetarianism, compassion and wisdom go hand in hand with the principals of Buddha and Buddhism. At the heart of Buddhism is ahimsa (non-violence). The most important of all the ancient Vedic texts of India, the Bhagavat Purana, explains the mission of Buddha.
The Bhagavat Purana, or Srimad Bhagavatam, explains in 18,000 verses, the path to bhakti (devotion) and samadhi (enlightenment). It is presented as a narration of philosophy, histories and parables spoken by the great Shukadev Goswami to an assembly of sages and yogis millennia ago.
Below is a link to verse 1.3.24 of this text with translation and extensive commentary by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada explains the mission of Buddha.
